Overview

The purpose of this division is to provide a practical and adequate control of all contractors in the construction trades in the city by requiring annual registration and competency cards, assurance of their proper coverage of required insurance and to insure the highest standard of building within the city. It is the intent of the City Commission to protect the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of the city through the regulation of the construction and home improvement industries.

Board Membership & Appointment

This board currently has 9 members. The members shall be appointed by a majority vote of the City Commission a board of examiners of contractors, consisting of ten members who have been residents of the county for at least 2 years prior to the date of their appointment, except that this shall not apply as to the Director of Building and Community Response. The term of office of each member of the board shall be for 4 years, but the City Commission may remove any member of the board without cause, notice or hearing. Members appointed to fill vacancies caused by death, resignation or removal shall serve during the unexpired terms of their predecessors.

Member Structure

The board shall consist of the Director of Building and Community Response, 3 consumer representatives, and 6 members licensed in the State of Florida in any of the following:

  • Architecture
  • Electrical contractor
  • Engineering
  • General, residential, or building contractor
  • Mechanical or air-conditioning contractor
  • Other contracting specialty
  • Plumbing contractor
  • Roofing
  • Swimming pools
