Accepting Applications
Applications for current vacancies are accepted online. If a closing date is specified on the vacancy, applications must be received by the time specified on the vacancy. If no time is specified, the application is due by 5:00 p.m. on that date.
All Fields should be completed. Putting "see resume" on the application will not suffice. Current supervisor names and numbers are needed. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Resumes and cover letters can be submitted online also.
Application Process
Applications received are screened for qualifications and forwarded to the hiring department for review and consideration. Applicants chosen for an interview will be contacted by telephone; applicants who are not will be notified by mail. The city's hiring process may take from 3 weeks to over 1 month. Open continuous positions may take several months.
If offered a position with the city, the prospective employee will receive a preliminary telephone call and undergo a series of hiring steps as follows:
- Letter of intent (Entering second phase contingent upon successful completion of background and drug screening)
- Background search and drug screening
- Telephone call concerning final offer
- Confirmation letter
Probationary Period
All new hires are subject to a 6-month probationary period, after which time they will qualify for benefits. (Benefits will be available on the 1st of the month following the employee's 60th day of employment).
Police Department Application Process
The Police Department requires additional testing for hire as stated in the position descriptions.
