Application & Hiring Process

Accepting Applications

Applications for current vacancies are accepted exclusively online. If a closing date is specified for the vacancy, applications must be received by the designated time on that date. If no specific time is indicated, the application deadline is 5:00 p.m. on the specified date.

It is essential to complete all fields in the application. The phrase "see resume" is not acceptable as a substitute. Current supervisor names and contact numbers are required. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Resumes and cover letters can also be submitted online.

Application Process

Received applications undergo a qualification screening and are then forwarded to the respective hiring department for thorough review and consideration. Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted via telephone, while those not chosen will receive notification by mail. The city's hiring process typically spans from 3 weeks to over 1 month, and open continuous positions may take several months to complete.

Prospective employees, if offered a position with the city, will receive a preliminary telephone call and undergo a series of hiring steps as follows:

  1. Letter of intent (Progressing to the second phase contingent upon successful completion of background and drug screening)
  2. Background search and drug screening
  3. Telephone call confirming the final offer
  4. Confirmation letter

Probationary Period

All new hires are subject to a 6-month probationary period. Following this period, employees become eligible for benefits, which will be available on the 1st of the month following the employee's 60th day of employment.

Police Department Application Process

The Police Department mandates additional testing for hiring, as outlined in the position descriptions.
