Major Michael Santiago commands the Support Services Bureau. He began his Law Enforcement Career in 1996 as a police officer with the Federal Protective Service Police in the New York Region. In 1998, he joined the Lauderhill Police Department. While with the City of Lauderhill, he served in a variety of positions which included eight years as a member of the SWAT Team ultimately rising to the position of SWAT Commander. Major Michael Santiago has an extensive investigative and operational background serving as a detective assigned to the FBI Organized Crime Task Force, supervisor of Patrol Operations, supervised a Major Narcotics group assigned to the Metro-Broward Drug Task Force, and Major Crimes for the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
In 2019, Major Santiago was assigned to the Special Operations Division where he led the Department’s Training Unit, the Public Information Office, the Community Relations Unit, and the Traffic Unit.
In 2023, after serving 25 years with the Lauderhill Police Department, and retiring as a Major, he was offered an opportunity to become a Major with the City of Fort Pierce Police Department where he serves as the Support Services Bureau Commander.
Major Santiago holds a bachelor’s degree in Homeland Security and Emergency Management, has successfully completed Executive Leadership Courses, and is a graduate of the University of Louisville’s Southern Police Institute 86th Command Officer’s Development Course. Major Santiago is also a proud United States Marine Corps Veteran.
Major Michael Santiago oversees the following divisions: Recruiting, Professional Standards, Training, Accreditation, Public Affairs, and the Crime Analysis and Intelligence Unit.
