The Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency is moving forward with a major streetscape improvement project to transform 2nd Street, between Marina Way and Orange Avenue, into a vibrant and multi-functional destination.
The project is designed to create a more walkable, flexible public space that serves both everyday activity and special community events.
The design is expected to include:
Infrastructure upgrades
Curbless, pedestrian-friendly walkways
Decorative lighting and landscaping
Modern street furniture
Flexible design elements such as retractable barriers and reconfigurable lanes for easy event transitions
Following interviews with community stakeholders, EXP US Services, the consultant for the 2nd Street Improvements Project, has prepared four design concepts to share with the community. These concepts explore potential improvements to safety, accessibility, and overall corridor functionality.
Community Workshop
On Wednesday, February 11, the Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency (FPRA) hosted a public workshop at the River Walk Center to discuss the 2nd Street Redevelopment Project. Approximately 40 residents, business owners, and stakeholders attended.
Participants reviewed three conceptual design options for the streetscape and roadway configuration along 2nd Street between Orange Avenue and Avenue A. The project was originally identified in the Downtown Master Plan and is intended to enhance safety, walkability, and economic vitality within the downtown core.
All three concepts propose a curbless, pedestrian-priority design featuring expanded pedestrian zones, enhanced landscaping with planters and shade trees, outdoor seating areas, and upgraded lighting to create a more inviting and flexible environment. The concepts varied in level of vehicular access and activation.
The workshop generated meaningful community engagement, including interactive sticker voting, written comment cards, and survey responses. The feedback collected will guide refinement of a preferred concept as the project advances into the next phase of design.
