This initiative will build upon past planning work, including:
Building on a Rich Legacy
Lincoln Park is one of the oldest and most culturally significant neighborhoods in Fort Pierce. It is recognized as the home of Zora Neale Hurston, acclaimed author of Their Eyes Were Watching God, and the birthplace of the Florida Highwaymen, world-renowned artists celebrated for their vivid landscape paintings.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Avenue D was the heart of Lincoln Park, home to thriving African American-owned shops, restaurants, and a local theater. Today, revitalization efforts are underway to restore this corridor as a vibrant hub of commerce and culture.
Through this initiative, the FPRA is committed to honoring Lincoln Park’s cultural history while laying the foundation for a sustainable future. Recent streetscape and infrastructure upgrades, along with the removal of substandard housing, are helping create a welcoming environment that supports new businesses, community pride, and continued economic growth.
Community Workshop
In early 2026, the planning process will include community workshops that will provide residents and stakeholders the opportunity to share input and help shape the future of Lincoln Park.
