Moore's Creek

About the Project

Improvements to Moore's Creek were made to provide water quality benefits to the existing 2,382 acre drainage basin that discharges into the creek and ultimately into the Indian river Lagoon. Improvements include the widening of the creek to provide additional storage capacity within the creek limits, installation of baffle boxes to remove nutrients, oils, and sediments from the run-off, and construction of littoral shelves. Littoral Shelves are shallow areas along the creek with a depth of 1' to 2'. The plantings in the littoral zones helps filter out pollutants such as heavy metals, oils, fertilizer, and nutrients while providing a healthy habitat for wildlife.
